A Morning of Tech, Teens, and 'Ohana Spirit
On Saturday, April 25th, the Kāne‘ohe community came together for the Key Project Kupuna Tech Event—a joyful gathering that paired tech-savvy youth with our beloved kūpuna for a morning of learning and connection. From 10 AM to 2 PM, eight dedicated teen volunteers offered one-on-one tech support, spending up to three hours with some participants to help them connect with family, set up devices, and learn essential online safety tips.
The energy was warm and welcoming, filled with laughter and "lightbulb" moments as kūpuna gained confidence using smartphones and tablets. Whether setting up Zoom for a call with a grandchild or learning how to avoid scams, every session was personalized and paced with patience and aloha.
We’re especially grateful to the Key Project for their years of unwavering support—not just for providing food and drinks that kept our team fueled, but for their ongoing commitment to bridging the digital divide in our community. Their partnership has made events like this not just possible, but truly impactful.
And a special mahalo to our lead teen mentor, Kekanaloa Kailihiwa, whose leadership on the Windward Coast continues to inspire both keiki and kūpuna alike. This event wasn’t just about technology—it was about connection, generosity, and growing stronger, together.
